English cuisine is not one of the most famous in the world. That is not a statement but a fact. Everyone knows someone who has returned from the UK ranting about how badly they ate during the trip. The problem is that most people don’t know that this type of cuisine goes beyond the famous fish and chips or the English breakfast. There you can find a lot of exciting dishes such as pies with an infinite number of fillings, the delicious Shepherd’s pie, and the famous Sunday roast.
However, what is the Sunday roast? Honestly, this is not the first time we explained it, as you can read in an article dedicated to James Joyce Pub in Madrid. It is a traditional dish whose main ingredient is roast meat, usually beef, lamb, or pork. As an accompaniment, people often serve a variety of vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, or peas. All this, bathed in gravy sauce and garnished with a Yorkshire pudding. Doesn’t it sound irresistible?
Although it is not well-known in Spain, it is one of the things that people love most in the UK. For this reason, it is not difficult to find pubs and restaurants that prepare it on Sundays. So if you still don’t know where to eat the best Sunday roast in Manchester, take note! We are sure you will love the place we are about to recommend to you.
About Trof, the place where you’ll find the best sunday roast in Manchester
Considering Northern Quarter is one of the most active neighborhoods in Manchester, it is not surprising that we found there one of the most attractive restaurants in the city. We are talking about Trof, where, in addition to traditional dishes and typical pub food, they offer a good variety of craft beers, cocktails, and all kinds of liquors. Moreover, it also has certain fame due to its concerts and open mic nights.
Like most restaurants in the Northern Quarter, you will find Trof in an old building that exudes charm. It has three floors with very different atmospheres. While the first floor serves as a bar, the first floor has more tables and is where people usually eat. On the other hand, the top floor has a small lounge, so it is perfect for tea or coffee in a quiet and relaxing atmosphere.
Honestly, one of the things that surprised us the most was its family ambience. In this case, we went on Sunday at lunchtime and ate on the second floor surrounded by families and small groups of friends. We were the only tourists in the restaurant, and the whole place was eating what we consider the best Sunday roast in Manchester!

The best Sunday roast in Manchester
As you would expect, at Trof, you will find Sunday roasts of different types of meat. You may choose from beef, chicken, pork, and lamb, which is our favorite. All are served with seasonal vegetables and roasted potatoes, dipped in gravy, and topped with a Yorkshire pudding. Additionally, often accompanied by different types of condiments. In this case, the classic English mint sauce. And if that wasn’t enough, you may add many garnishes such as hand-cut chips, fries, or mashed potatoes. So, want to know why we consider it the best Sunday roast in Manchester?
Despite its eccentric presentation, our first impression was that it was not excessively large. But as we all know, appearances can be deceiving, and, in the end, we had to be gluttonous to finish it. It was so delicious that we were sorry to leave a single drop of sauce on the plate.
That was due to various factors. On the one hand, the meat was tender and juicy. Then, the spices gave it a pleasant and tasty touch. On the other hand, the delicious gravy sauce was a perfect link between the lamb and the vegetables. This way, mixing the ingredients to play with different textures was much more fun. The sauce was perfect for the Yorkshire pudding, which, by the way, was fluffy and soft. Using it to baste the dish didn’t even let us think about asking for some bread. Finally, although we found the mint sauce too vinegary, its flavor was so pleasant that it was strangely addictive.
In short, a 5-star dish, both for the quantity and the quality and its price. We loved it! We would repeat it again and again.
Why do we think this is the best Sunday roast in Manchester?
Honestly, our experience at Trof could not have been better. Being forward-thinking, we booked a table for two a couple of weeks in advance. We were not too happy with requiring a credit card to make a reservation through the website, but the confirmation was almost immediate anyway. We imagine it’s a way of ensuring people won’t jilt them up. But it shows a certain degree of distrust in the people willing to make the reservation.
Apart from that, everything else was perfect. The decoration and ambiance of the restaurant are so cozy that we could have sat at one of the tables for hours without wanting to leave. In addition, the staff was friendly and the service quite fast. That, added to the food quality, made us very happy with the establishment. Finally, we found the lunch price more than reasonable, especially considering the exchange rate from euros to pounds. To sum up our visit in one word, it would be amazing.
So if you still don’t think you’ll find the best Sunday roast in Manchester at Trof, there’s only one thing to do: try it and be convinced that it is!
